Needs in Lake County: 211 is a confidential, free 24/7 helpline service that is run by United Way. Families can call 211, text 898211, or visit https://211lakecounty.org. Help is offered in over 150 different languages, regardless of insurance and/or documentation status. It is an informational and referral service that acts as a central contact point for the health and human services of Lake County, Illinois. It has the most up to date information for residents. You can contact 211 for a range of help such as utilities, mental health of all ages, food, addictions, financial assistance, ect.

Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance’s Online Support Groups: Online support groups provide people living with depression and bipolar disorder a place to share experiences, discuss coping skills, and offer hope to one another. HelpLine volunteers and staff at the National Alliance on Mental Illness have compiled a thorough & well-organized 78-page document updated Feb 2020 that offers extensive resources and supports, both in person and online/phone, with resources available in English and Spanish. Specific areas covered include but are not limited to: mental health diagnoses, abuse/domestic violence, addiction, children & adolescent-specific help (for parents as well as geared towards the child/adolescent), employment, financial assistance, disability benefits (SSDI & SSI), and many more.
